J.W. Wenham, counter to the
documentary hypothesis, has shown that the Flood narrative is chiastic
in structure, instead of being redundant, as critics maintain. The
account is consecutive and well-ordered, not a conflation of
two different accounts. Wenham discerns a palistrophic, or recursive,
structure within the flood narrative. He argues that the literary
