These caveats being explained,
olive trees do not normally grow today in Armenia. A small number of olive
trees might be found growing in Armenia's southernmost lowlands and in
the lower basin of the Debed River, an oasis of dry,
subtropical climate in the Lori region. For this reason, the
Armenians tend to substitute the olive twig with a "green
shoot" in their telling of Noah's story.
